My phone interview with Randy Travis was scheduled to last 15 minutes, but the phoner stretched into 48 minutes. He called from his Santa Fe, N.M., home, apologizing profusely for being late and speaking with that deep Southern drawl that has fueled radio for decades.

The Gaither Homecoming tour has come to the DCU Center several times over the past few years, although the last visit was nearly three years ago. Bill Gaither, the esteemed and legendary founder of the Southern Gospel and contemporary Christian music group, did not make the trip in June 2007 because he was undergoing tests for possible heart problems.
